If the same patterns keep returning - in your work, your relationships, or your own head - this is an enquiry into what is producing them.
What this book is not
It is not seven steps. It is not a belief system to adopt. There is nothing to join and nothing to practise on faith. It is an enquiry: a careful look at how perception creates the loop you live in, and what happens when awareness sees it clearly. As Pankaj writes, it is a book that does not want to be believed. Only tested, against your own life.

I have just started reading Breaking the Impossible Loop, and I was immediately drawn to the concept of "Mechanical Replay." What made it particularly meaningful was that I actually tried the practice rather than simply reading about it. For some time, I had been struggling with a professional situation where certain thoughts would arise, sometimes early in the morning, and influence my mood throughout the day. I knew intellectually that I shouldn't allow them to control me, but I found it difficult to break the loop. After reading about Mechanical Replay, I began sitting quietly at night and mechanically replaying a few triggering moments from the day - without trying to analyse, change or fight them. To my surprise, after around 7-8 repetitions, I could feel the emotional charge beginning to reduce. The thoughts started losing their intensity and significance. Gradually, I also noticed that similar situations in real life were triggering less emotional reaction. The situations hadn't changed. My relationship with them had. That, for me, was the most powerful insight. I felt more centred and less emotionally swayed by everyday interactions. I am still reading the book, but this experience alone has already made it deeply meaningful to me. It has given me a practical way to experience greater inner freedom.

I have read nearly two-thirds of Breaking the Impossible Loop, and what has impressed me most is the clarity with which Pankaj explains how our experiences, perceptions, memories and learned responses can shape the way we think, feel and behave - and, over time, become woven into our personality and our view of the world. The book helps us see that it is not necessarily the event itself that shapes us. It is also how we interpreted it, what we learned from it, how we responded to it, and how those responses were repeatedly reinforced. Over time, such patterns can become so familiar that we mistake them for an inseparable part of who we are. What makes the book particularly effective is that these ideas are explained patiently, through practical examples and exercises that encourage the reader to look within and discover how these patterns operate in their own life. The book then goes a step further, helping us examine and, where necessary, shed some of the emotional and behavioural baggage we may have carried for years. By the end, the reader may not become a completely different person. Rather, there is the possibility of becoming a person who understands himself or herself better - and is therefore better equipped to choose how to think, feel and respond. That, perhaps, could be the beginning of a "new me."

Early praise
“It creates curiosity to read more while encouraging the reader to look within and relate the ideas to their own life.”

I have just finished reading the first chapter and I must say it succeeds in doing exactly what a good opening chapter should - it creates curiosity to read more while encouraging the reader to look within and relate the ideas to their own life. What I particularly liked was the way you have taken a psychological concept and explained it through simple, everyday situations that anyone can relate to. The examples are engaging, thought-provoking and make the reader pause and reflect on how deeply our perceptions shape our experiences.

About the author
Pankaj Gupta
Pankaj spent more than thirty years in engineering and leadership, across manufacturing, quality, Six Sigma, and organisational transformation, always circling one question: why do people stay trapped in patterns that no longer serve them? That question led him from systems and processes to the inner systems beneath them: perception, conditioning, meditation, and Ho’oponopono. Today he guides individuals one-on-one, bringing the clarity of an engineer, the curiosity of an explorer, and the compassion of a fellow traveller.
